Dia De Los Muertos at City Club Los Angeles

Today is the first day of a cultural celebration called Dia De Los Muertos or known by Americans as Day of The Dead, a Mexican holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, and by people of Mexican ancestry. This internationally recognized holiday is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, and focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.

I have the distinct honor of working with City Club of Los Angeles on a series of annual dinners called City Suppers, with the goal of celebrating Southern California Wedding Planners. I invited Holly Gray of Events by Holly Gray to design and plan our summer dinner and asked that she design something “out of the ordinary”. Never one to go with the grain, Holly lives and breathes color and details. When she called to say “I want to do Dia De Los Muertos in Summer”, I have to say that it was a bit unorthodox to me. As a woman of Hispanic decent it caught me off guard. Once Holly described her ideas, I was enamored and so was Director of Events at City Club, Joshua Baca.

We brought together the most creative team in Southern California that we knew would bring Holly’s vision to life. As you can see from the images captured by Joan Fuller Photography, the evening was bursting in color and excitement. From our alcohol sponsor, Kah Tequila’s “Dia De Los Muertos” tequila, wine and beer, to paper flowers by The Bleu Dahlia, fresh florals by Flower Duet, and Sugar Skull cookies and a dessert buffet by Two’s A Party, the spirit of the holiday was captured to perfection. Adding to the authenticity of the Day of The Dead, our dear friends Georgia and Jen of Face It Sugar were on hand to do face painting for our planners. Adding an interactive aspect to an event always makes it more memorable.

The purpose of City Suppers is to introduce City Club to prestigious planners throughout Southern California, pampering them with a hard earned night of fine food, cocktails and everything the club has to offer them and their clients. City Club is located 51 floors above Downtown Los Angeles, with sweeping views of the city and beyond. The architecture and decor here are modern and sleek with each room displaying an homage to the diverse areas of the city. Seeing the “City of Angels” at night with it’s glittering skyline is breath taking and must be experienced first hand. If you want a tour of this DTLA gem in the sky, contact Joshua Baca, Director of Events. He’ll be proud to show you amazing property. Or give me a call and I’ll escort you. I’d love another excuse to visit one my favorite hidden spots in LA.
